PSI: Training for Professionals

Training in Transference-Focused Psychotherapy

This course will begin with review of the principles and techniques of TFP. It will then move on to case material. The instructors will provide the initial case material, including videos of sessions that illustrate management of typical situations. After this introductory phase, the course will shift to primarily discussion and supervision of participants’ cases. After completing this course participants should have acquired the fund of knowledge and clinical skills to be a competent TFP therapist. Participants will receive a certificate from the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research for the year-long course.

Case Consultation Group

The is an advanced case consultation group limited to professionals who are currently licensed in their clinical fields (e.g., licensed clinical psychologist, licensed clinical social workers, board-certified medical doctors, registered nurses), and who have had significant exposure to the theory and technique of Transference-Focused Psychothearpy. The objective of the group is not to provide supervision of cases, but rather to teach the basic principles of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy through the presentation of clinical material by the participants. The group will be limited to 8 participants, and applicants will be asked to submit a CV, two references, and a copy of a valid professional license prior to being considered for admission to the group.

Custom Trainings

PSI custom trainings and inservices in the area of personality disorder assessment and treatment are developed to address the specific knowledge gaps faced by your clinical and administrative staff through the development of an ongoing consultation relationship. We can tailor the format of our programs to meet the needs and budget of your organization. Programs generally include half- or full-day trainings supplemented weekly or monthly follow-up meetings. Our programs combine didactic training with clinical consultation according to the needs of your agency or organization. 

Staffing, fees, meeting times and location for consultations and trainings vary according to the needs of our client’s needs and the availability of PSI staff.

Speakers Bureau

The PSI Speaker’s Bureau is designed to help fill specific educational gaps related to personality disorder assessment and treatment for your administrative and/or clinical staff in a time-limited format. Our members can speak to groups with varying levels of experience and exposure to the field of personality disorders, providing overviews of assessment/diagnosis, comparative models of psychotherapy for personality disorders, and Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, or more
specific issues such as managing combined treatments, contract setting in
Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, and differential diagnosis.

Staffing, fees, meeting times and locations for our speaker’s bureau vary according to the needs of our clients and are arranged on a case-by-case basis.
